Well, we weren’t sure what to expect from the Adelaide Cabaret Festival,
but we’ll tell you this much: it’s a cracker of an event. Beautifully
curated by Ms Julia Holt, wond’rously staffed by many dudes and
dudettes, AdCab went off like a frog in a sock, and the Drowsies had a
thoroughly enjoyable time of it. We came, we saw, we played, we danced,
we swept up afterwards… except we didn’t sweep up afterwards.
Thanks to everyone in the Space Theatre: Craig on sound, Bernie on
monitors, Paul on lights, Lucy the tireless stage manager, Mike on the
follow-spot (woo!) and Richard on projection. Y’all were mighty fine.
Thanks to all dudes and dudettes in and around the Kool Kat Club, where
our Sunday evening gigs took place. And thanks to Julia, Jacinta and
the whole gang at AdCab in general.
Thanks also to the organisers of the World Cup 2006, for choosing to
run it at the same time as the Cabaret Festival and thus providing us
with a little somethin’ somethin’ to watch in our hotel rooms on every
evening; to the staff of the Embassy Hotel, for doing the dishes,
stacking the dishwashers and changing the sheets; to the contracted
cab-drivers of the Cabaret Festival, for escorting us around the city
with elan; to the roadbuilders, for making such sturdy all right I’ll
shut up now.
